The images below are a representation of some cycling facilities in and around Stourbridge.

The first group of five images were taken at the Amblecote Road subway under the Ring Road. Obviously they are in need of a spring clean to say the least. There are a number of issues that need to be addressed. Firstly, the barriers are more of a hindrance than a help. Pedestrians and cyclists are in the habit of completely ignoring the lanes, and I often come face to face with both on the barrier protected bends. Obviously, I'm riding slowly and ringing my bell, but it doesn't prevent conflict. In the fifth image of the set you can see a wall. If the middle section of this wall could be removed to provide straight access and clear visibility for all.

This next set of three images shows the heavily publicised and barely used Stourbridge to Kingswinford cycle route. I think you can guess why it is little used - the fact that you aren't meant to cycle on it might be an issue that needs addressing. I've raised this many times, but officers don't seem to be keen to sort it out. The third image shows that parts of it are very nice.

This next set of five images cover the official route from Stourbridge to Brierley Hill though Withymoor. I have a real problem with the barriers - they are confusing and dangerous. They would be better placed a few metres back from the road, if needed at all. I would like to see the barriers removed and a raised section crossing the road to slow traffic. The council and the local Sustrans rep disagree wholeheartedly with me. You decide.
